Visitor visa / eTA

Depending on your country of citizenship, you will need a Visitor visa or eTA - Electronic Travel Authorisation prior to entering Canada.

ETA is available for citizens of European Union countries, Australia and some selected Asian and South American countries.

This authorization is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for 5 years or until the expiry date of your passport, if it is less than 5 years.

The fee for issuing an eTA is CAD 7.00 and in most cases it only takes few minutes after applying.

Following is required for the online application:

• valid passport
• credit or debit card, which allows internet payments
• email address

Student or Work Holiday Visa Holders' (granted after August 2015) eTAs are issued automatically and therefore do not need to submit a separate request.

Visitor visa is required for citizens of countries which are not included in the ETA program. The application for visitor visa can be submitted online or on paper and biometrics collection is also mandatory for most applicants.

The fee for visitor visa is CAD 100 plus CAD 85 for biometrics.

Usually, the visa is vaild for 6 monhts from entering Canada unless other duration is specified by the official.

All visitor visa and eTA holders are strictly forbidden to work and those not complying with this condition may be removed from Canada and banned to enter for several years.
