International students have a very good reputation in Canada and therefore the problem of finding a job is solved in many cases very quickly after arriving in the country. Depending on your choice of the city, professional skills and language abilities you can find yourself a permanent or seasonal job mostly in the travel and hospitality industries.

Students in Canada can officially work 20 hours a week while studying at Colleges and Universities, and full time during the school holidays and the second part of the Work and Study program.

What to Prepare

  • Resume - We recommend preparing it before departure (if you need any help just let us know)
  • Social Insurance Number(SIN) - you can apply for one just after the arrival at Service Canada , which offices you can find in every big city . You only need to bring your passport and Canadian address, the applications are being handled on the spot.
  • Canadian bank account - most of the banks are offering special rates for students
  • Know (at least partially) how the Taxes in Canada works.

Where and how to search

There are several ways to find a job in Canada:

  • Friends - have your eyes and ears open and don't be shy to ask for a job in your surroundings (at school, at the party, in the mountains, at the accommodation ..)

  • Facebook and other social media - you will find many job offers here, especially in the various facebook groups dedicated to international travellers

  • The street - by literally walking and distributing resumes. This method is very effective especially for work in hospitality as many cafes and restaurants do not officially publish the job position.

  • Websites

  • Hospitality agencies
