Tourist visa to Australia

Visitor visas

Depending on the country of your nationality and location, there are several visa options if you intend to visit Australia for a holiday/short study or a business trip.

Visitor visa subclass 600

This is a general tourist visa category available for onshore or offshore visa applicants. This visa is usually granted for up to 3, 6 or 12 months and can be for a single visit, or for multiple travels to Australia. You must satisfy the requirement of being a genuine visitor and be able to cover the costs of your trip to Australia. Parents of Australian citizens or permanent residents can be granted a visitor visa with longer duration – up 18 months, 3 years or even 5 years on a case by case basis.

Electronic Travel Authority subclass 601

ETA is available for applicants from certain countries (USA, Canada, Western Europe, Hong Kong) and needs to be applied for from offshore. The visa is valid for 12 months with 3 months stay at a time.

eVisitor visa subclass 651

Offshore applicants from other selected countries can get subclass 651 eVisitor visa. The visa length and validity is the same as for the ETA. eVisitor visa is free of charge, whilst an ETA has a service fee of $20. The eVisitor visa applications can only be lodged if you are outside Australia.
