Student visa

Do you plan to study in Australia for over 3 months? In that case, you will need to apply for a student visa subclass 500.

• Duration of your visa will depend on the duration of your course. Combination of more courses (course package) can be also used for the visa application.
• Each course must be registered with CRICOS – which is a database of all courses available for international students in Australia including English language courses, vocational courses and University degrees.

For your student visa to be granted, you need to meet several requirements:

• be enrolled for the course and provide CoE – confirmation of enrolment
• have OSHC health insurance for the whole period of proposed stay
• have the financial capacity to cover the cost of your stay in Australia
• be a Genuine temporary entrant
• in some cases, you need to demonstrate your English proficiency by sitting an English test.

While holding a student visa you are allowed to work 40 hours a fortnight while your course is in session and unlimited hours during school holidays.

You can also include your family members – your spouse/ de facto partner and children under 18 in the application. Your partner will be allowed to work 40 hours a fortnight unless you are enrolled in a Masters or PhD degree in which case they can work unlimited hours.

The current application fee for the student visa is AU$ 620 for student, AU$ 460 for a partner and AU$ 150 for a child.
