Accommodation in New Zealand
We can help you to arrange the accommodation even before leaving for your big trip to New Zealand. We certainly recommend having a secured accommodation for at least first few weeks in new country. Accommodation types varied and we can help you to find the right one according to your requirements and budget.
Most popular types of accommodation:
Share accommodation
This is an apartment or house shared by several people, mostly international students. The advantage of this type of accommodation is the price, especially if you are willing to stay a little further from the city center or beach location and you don't mind sharing the room with another student. This is also good option for those who value the privacy as there is also a possibility of single room. It is very important to see the room/house/apartment yourself before sending any payment in advance so you will avoid unpleasant surprises or scams.
Student Accommodation
This form of accommodation is popular among students especially at the beginning of their stay. The only condition is to be a student at any school in the city, and other choices are up to you. Similar to "shared accommodation", you can choose from different types of room (single, shared with one or more people, studio, ...), but the big advantage here is that the students accommodation are usually right in downtown or close to the most popular schools. Modernly furnished dormitories nowadays offer students a lot of opportunities for both study and social life, so it is very easy to find new friends at the beginning and later find a more suitable accommodation together.
Homestay
Homestay literally means "living with the family" and is offered by almost every school in New Zealand. Schools have their own department that is carefully choosing families who are suitable to host international students. Once again, this form of accommodation is very useful at the beginning of your stay, when you spend your free time with an English-speaking family and live under one roof with different culture and habits. Families usually provide meals (half-board during the weekdays and full board over the weekend) and are also taking students to the family trips and treat them as part of their family. The disadvantage may be the distance from the city and less privacy than when renting or sharing a flat with other students.
Hostel / Backpackers
The advantage of the hostel is that it is usually located in popular areas such as downtown or beach location and the minimum length of your stay could be even one night. On the other hand, you do not have much privacy here because you share the room with two or more strangers that could be students or non-students. This form of accommodation is good for traveling, we don't really recommend it for long-term living simply because of the loss of privacy and the price that could be higher than expected.
